The Village of Estero Planning Zoning and Design Board held their monthly meeting on Tuesday June 11th at 4:30. As a reminder, the Estero PZDB oversees and considers rezoning requests and amendments, development orders (site plan approval), including architectural and landscape plans, variances, and other responsibilities. They act in an advisory capacity to the elected Council who makes the official decision for staff to carry out.
Among other discussions, they considered requests for development orders for a day school and childhood development center. These projects are nearing final approval. In addition, the Board also considered two items I believe most people are interested in.
First, an applicant is seeking a rezoning request for the vacant site east of the Estero Medical Center, off Arcos Avenue in the Plaza Del Sol Commercial Planned Development (CPD). This area is caddy corner off Three Oaks and Corkscrew Rd. Originally zoned for an Assisted Living Facility that never materialized, the applicant is seeking approval for a self storage facility and hotel. This area plan will be centered around an urban green space area.
I am no fan of more storage facilities, but I am a firm believer that customers know best. If there is a need, the market will provide a solution. I am happy to see a dedicated green space for this area and hope it can alleviate what will most assuredly be an eye sore.
The second big ticket item is discussion on the newest design for the High Entertainment District. At a previous meeting, multiple Board members lamented at the lackluster design. They asked for a different look saying this area will the center of the Village. Lets make it look like the center of Estero. I personally love this newest design. What do you think?
Excavation starts next week. Construction begins later this year. Completion is schedueld to be completed October 2025
Planning meetings take place once a month. I’ll do my best to follow along, but encourage you to do the same. Thank you for reading!
